jurieJurie Botha is an endurance athlete and adventurer. With his next expedition, Cycling South Against Rape, he will attempt to become the first South African to cycle the length of the equator(40,030km), solo and unsupported, within 20 months. This ultra endurance expedition will start in May 2017 when he departs from Lima, Peru on his way to Cape Town, South Africa. He will aim to raise R250,000 for the Jes Foord Foundation.

Awesome South Africans had the opportunity to meet Jurie on the side of the road outside Stellenbosch this weekend during one of his training rides.

Ask me to describe him and I will say: “Salt of the Earth and a ‘Vat nie K** nie’ kind of guy” 🙂

2 years ago, Jurie had a heart attack and has decided a lifestyle change is needed and what better change than to challenge himself and do some good at the same time.

Jurie says he has been a supporter for the Jes Foord Foundation for a few years now, so in his words choosing them as the beneficiary for his challenge was a no brainer.

Jurie leaves on the 7th of May for Peru and is planning on completing his 40 000 km ride in 20 months. We wish him well on his final preparations we look forward to hearing updates from the roads of South America.
